Meet Our Founding Attorney

Shayan Kohanteb founded Checkmate Law to deliver strategic, results-driven representation to personal injury victims across California. A graduate of the USC Marshall School of Business and UCLA School of Law, Shayan began his legal career at Gibson Dunn and Crutcher, one of the nation’s premier trial and litigation firms, where he handled complex, high-stakes cases and tried cases to verdict. He also externed with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, gaining valuable federal courtroom experience.


Shayan approaches every case with the precision of a chess strategist. He anticipates the insurance company’s moves, prepares each case as if it will go to trial, and positions his clients for the strongest possible outcome. Known for his accessibility and hands-on support, Shayan believes injury victims deserve an attorney who is responsive, relentless, and personally invested in their recovery.
